Asian stocks surge in early trading
Tokyo ? Asian stocks surged in early trading today following a rally on Wall Street overnight.
Japan’s key Nikkei 225 index rose 2.80 percent to 13,459.83 points at the end of the morning session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The index gained 2.06 percent in the previous session.
Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng index jumped 5.60 percent in morning trading to 24,857.91
Traders took their cue from Wall Street, where the Dow Jones industrials rose more than 100 points Thursday on economic figures, which suggested the U.S. job market is holding up. Rubber and mining issues were among the early gainers in Tokyo.
Traders also bought exporter issues as the dollar rose against the yen. The dollar bought 107.28 yen this morning, up from 106.79 yen late Thursday in New York. Toyota Motor Corp. was up 5 percent early today.
