From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 22, 1908: “The Kansas House committee on temperance reported adversely to a bill to prohibit druggists from selling liquors except with a physician’s prescription. There is an effort to make sellers record for public record the names of all who made purchases and there is quite a controversy among the lawmakers on this issue and the matter of privacy. : All the caucuses in Topeka about the issue of primary election proved a waste of time since no new decisions were made to settle the matter. : This paper isn’t going to lose any sleep about Jack London being lost at sea. Any fellow who will put out to sea in a 14-foot tub ought to get drowned.”
