Knicks guard Marbury to have ankle surgery

? Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury will have surgery on his left ankle and is out indefinitely.

Marbury decided to have surgery after an MRI during a second visit with Dr. William Hamilton, a specialist who earlier this week found that Marbury had inflammation around a chronically fractured bone spur. The surgery is expected to be Tuesday.

Marbury said earlier he would try to return this season, even if the Knicks were well out of the playoff race. He has had this surgery before and was sidelined for most of the summer.

Marbury is averaging a career-low 13.9 points during what has been the most difficult season of his career.
