Chart cites 473 days of White House e-mail gaps

January 19, 2008

— Apparent gaps in White House e-mail archives coincide with dates in late 2003 and early 2004 when the administration was struggling to deal with the CIA leak investigation and the possibility of a congressional probe into Iraq intelligence failures.

The gaps - 473 days over a period of 20 months - are cited in a chart prepared by White House computer technicians and shared in September with the House Reform and Government Oversight Committee, which has been looking into reports of missing e-mail.

Among the times for which e-mail may not have been archived from Vice President Dick Cheney's office are four days in early October 2003, just as a federal probe was beginning into the leak of Valerie Plame's CIA identity, an inquiry that eventually ensnared Cheney's chief of staff.

Contents of the chart - which the White House now disputes - were disclosed Thursday by Rep. Henry Waxman, a California Democrat who chairs the House committee, as he announced plans for a Feb. 15 hearing.

But GW never had an affair with a White House intern, so it's ok! (Said with great sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell....)

Wow! 79% of emails missing. This smells bad.

W promised to bring honor and respect for law back to the Whitehouse. This seems to be a bit of slippage. I'm disappointed in the "Decider."

Oh boy...I'm gonna be able to draw all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories off this story. Luckily, we'll soon be enlightened by our clear-thinking conservitive counterparts as to the reason for these missing emails (allegedly). I imagine we will be bombarded with undeniable proof as to how these emails could've dissappeard (allegedly).

Unlike me and my leftist loon buddies, the conservatives are the voice of reason, and do not participite in "tinfoil hat" talk. Instead, they are able to prove, without a doubt, that stories like this are a result of the leftist media agenda. Maybe if I took my tinfoil hat off, I could join the conservatives and argue that the Clintons murdered countless people who got in the way of their evil plot.

God probably came to GW and told him to delete the emails, or better yet...took care of that nasty business himself.

smitty (Anonymous) says:

Nixon only had 181/2 minutes missing and he was impeached. Here's to the good ole times!!

For the record, Nixon was never impeached.

If you're a public figure (and an elected one at that!), it's a whole different ballgame. That's why you have (Anonymous) next to your name, and Bush, Cheney, and Co. don't.
