High schoolers compete for state debate title

Students from Lawrence and Free State high schools will begin vying for a state title this morning in Garden City.

Free State, coached by Jo Ball, had six students qualify. For LHS, 13 students have qualified, coached by Jeff Plinsky.

The Free State two-speaker teams are: junior Sara Cortese and senior Kelly Karasek; juniors Alex Clark and Julian Kuszmaul; and, seniors Wes Phipps and Kate Falkenstien.

The LHS two-speaker teams, include juniors, Alexandra Hyler, Aimee Niedenthal, Maddie Neet, Sara Yilmaz, Tanvi Nimkar, Doug Speight, Paula Stamm and Amanda Sims. And seniors Laura Williams, Carmen Caffey, Trudy Curley, Erin Thimmesch and Rachel Van Horn make up the four-speaker team that qualified.
