About 24 homes without water

Residents of the 1800 and 1900 blocks of Louisiana and Mississippi streets will be without water until late this evening, following damage to a water main near 19th Street today, according to an announcement from the city.

A private contractor relocating utilities on 19th Street today drilled into a water main. City crews are repairing the eight-inch line, the city said. The work has closed 19th Street to through traffic from Louisiana to Mississippi. The road should be open to traffic and water service returned by late this evening, the city said.

Utility crews have gone door-to-door to provide notice of the service disruption in the affected area, which includes about 24 homes.

The contractor had been relocating private utilities in advance of the June start of the 19th Street and Louisiana intersection improvement.
