Wildcats upend ‘Horns

? Shalee Lehning scored 21 points to lead Kansas State to a 77-74 overtime upset of No. 15 Texas in the Longhorns’ Big 12 home opener on Sunday.

Lehning fouled out with 1:24 remaining in the overtime period, but Kimberly Dietz made two free throws with three seconds left to seal the victory. Brittainey Raven, who had 14 points, missed a desperation three-pointer for the Longhorns.

Ashley Sweat scored 20 points, Marlies Gipson had 16, and Dietz added 15 for the Wildcats (10-5, 2-0 Big 12).

Ashley Lindsey led Texas (12-4, 0-2) with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Erneisha Bailey had 12 points, and Kathleen Nash added 10.

Kansas State took a 62-61 advantage, its first lead of the game, with just over six minutes remaining on two free throws by Sweat. The Wildcats led 75-71 with a minute left before Carla Cortijo made a layup and free throw to bring Texas within 75-74.

Iowa State 84, No. 23 Colorado 77, 2OT

Boulder, Colo. – Alison Lacey scored 11 of her 27 points in the second overtime, and Iowa State snapped Colorado’s 11-game winning streak.

The Cyclones (12-3, 1-1 Big 12) quickly fell behind by five points in the second overtime before Lacey sank consecutive threes, the second one giving Iowa State a 77-76 lead.

After Colorado (12-3, 1-1) tied it on a free throw by Jackie McFarland, who led the Buffs with 28 points, Lacey put the Cyclones ahead for good 80-77 with a three-pointer from the right elbow with 1:17 left.
