Seahawks, Pats, Chargers, ‘Boys to advance

If you listen to the Seattle Seahawks, taking on Brett Favre in Green Bay is tantamount to tackling Odin in the halls of Valhalla. After all, it’s not a well-known fact, but scholars believe Odin wore a No. 4 jersey.

And Lambeau Field sounds a lot like Valhalla when you listen to Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck:

“The greatest venue in all of sports. Green Bay, Wis., is a special place to me. If it wasn’t for that organization, I would have never gotten a chance. I would be wearing a suit to work every day. They helped me to fulfill a dream of playing in the NFL.”

And don’t even try to talk to Seattle coach Mike Holmgren about Favre. He just gets misty-eyed and has to excuse himself.

Do these guys have the heart to knock Favre and the Cheeseheads (sounds like an ’80s rock band) out of a shot at the Super Bowl? And will the NFL allow it? Will TV allow it? Here are the only three story lines anyone wants to see:

Green Bay vs. New England: Good vs. Evil.

Dallas vs. New England: Girlfriend vs. Girlfriend.

ER Giants vs. Indianapolis: Manning vs. Manning.

Note: In seven of the last 10 years, at least one home team has lost in the divisional round. In last 17 years, the top two seeds in the AFC are just 23-11, but in the NFC they are a dominant 30-4.

The games:

Seattle at Green Bay, 3:30 p.m. today: Seems as though Seattle must have some success rushing (Maurice “Mo” Morris anyone?) but it’s the defense that has to pressure Favre into those mistakes he made last season.

Point spread: Packers by 8.

Jerry says: Seahawks by 1.

Jacksonville at New England, 7 p.m. today: Jags won’t shut up. Here’s DE Paul Spicer on Pats’ first-game cheating scandal: “Do like the NCAA and kick them out of the playoffs or something.” Right, Paul, good call.

Point spread: Pats by 131â2.

Jerry says: Pats by 17.

San Diego at Indianapolis, noon Sunday: Colts seems so superior, but that was true the last time, too, when Peyton Manning was picked six times and Adam Vinatieri blew a chip-shot FG in a 23-21 loss.

Point spread: Colts by 9.

Jerry says: History repeats, Bolts by 2.

ER Giants at Dallas, 3:30 p.m. Sunday: In Tony Romo’s last three games, he has thrown one TD pass while being picked five times, plus five sacks and three fumbles. But good news: Jessica Simpson is staying home!

Point spread: ‘Boys by 71â2 .

Jerry says: Cowboys by 3.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
