Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 10, 1908: “Urbin R. Angney, captain of the Kansas University football team for next season, committed suicide yesterday morning by jumping from a high place on Fraser Hall, striking his head on the cement sidewalk west of the building. He fell 85 feet. Death was instantaneous. The motive for his act is unknown but he had been troubled. He had told Dr. James Naismith recently that he had no financial troubles and most acquaintances seem at a loss except that the young man had indicated to some that he no longer felt any pleasure in life. This sad loss was quite a blow to the community.”
