Southeast Area Plan forwarded to county

After 10 years of discussion, city commissioners approved a plan to guide development of about 1,300 acres south and east of 23rd Street and O’Connell Road.

On a 4-1 vote, commissioners approved the Southeast Area Plan. Now, the plan will be forwarded to the Douglas County Commission for final approval.

The plan provides for a mix of industrial and residential uses in the area.

Commissioner Boog Highberger voted against it. He said he wasn’t sure it provided enough park space for the new residences that will develop in the area.
