Veritas girls, boys win big

? Veritas Christian bolted to a 22-point first-quarter lead and went on to defeat Flint Hills, 63-32, on Friday night in high school girls basketball.

Kristie Tiegreen had 27 points and five steals to lead Veritas. Taeylr Shelton and Marteka Carlton added nine points apiece.

“We came out and really put a lot of pressure on,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “Our pressure led to a lot of easy baskets in the first quarter.”

Veritas (6-1) will play Tuesday at Topeka Cair Paravel.

Veritas boys 63, Flint Hills 44

Eudora – Veritas Christian’s boys basketball team enjoyed a better shooting night than it had been accustomed to.

“One of our focuses over the break was to improve our shooting,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said, “and tonight we did that.”

The Eagles were led by Michael Kay, with 19 points, and Jeremiah Johnson, who had 13. Johnson also added 15 rebounds and three blocked shots.
