Members of Boy Scout Troop 65 in Baldwin City were honored during a court of honor Nov. 18 at the Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center.

Scouts who received rank advancements and other awards include Brandon Baltzell, Life rank; Stephen Beegle, one-year service star; Thomas Bollig, Camping and Citizenship in the World merit badges; Alex Coffey, Citizenship in the Community and Family Life merit badges; Benjamin Foster, Second Class rank; Zach Garrett, Astronomy merit badge; Nick Hagen, six-year service star; Ryan Hundley, Star rank; Logan Keener, Life rank and Swimming, Citizenship in the World and Citizenship in the Community merit badges; Jacob Mills, Alec Petry, Thomas Phillips, Sam Tuckfield and Thomas Vonbargen, Scout rank; Dylan Slavin, First Class rank; and Colby Soden, Life rank and Family Life and Personal Fitness merit badges.

Adults leaders who received awards include Joe Bollig, climbing and rappelling patch, hiking patch and troop committee challenge training; Jerry Brown, 43-year service star; Carl Butell, one-year service star; Barbara Coffey, five-year service star; Robert Lawrenz, hiking patch and nine-year service star; John Richards, hiking patch and seven-year service star; Mark Shuck, 17-year service star; Michael Slavin, hiking patch; and Edwin Wasson, one-year service star.

The troop also recently announced Scouts who were elected or appointed to leadership positions. They include Justin Cook, senior patrol leader; Keenan Coffey, assistant senior patrol leader; Austin Kraus, assistant senior patrol leader; Zach Garrett, chief scribe; Nick Hagen, scribe; Patrick Deitz, chief quartermaster; Thomas Bollig, librarian; Nathan Clem, historian; Ryan A. Hundley, chaplain’s aide; Sam Richards, Order of the Arrow troop representative; Colby Soden, instructor; Logan Keenerk, junior assistant Scoutmaster; Alex Coffey, junior assistant Scoutmaster; David Cook, Royce Harrison, Jack Mitchell, Alec Petry and Jake Mills, patrol leaders; and Brandon Baltzell, Mac Halpin, Andrew Morgan and Dylan Slavin, den chiefs.

Members of Cub Scout Pack 3462, chartered to Langston Hughes School, completed a successful popcorn fundraiser recently.

Matt Pribbenow took first place with $2,194 in sales and received $100. Second-place winner was Sean Riling, who sold $1,359 in popcorn and won $60. In third place was Josh Waisner, with sales of $1,111. Steele Jacobs sold $1,052.28, which was enough for fourth place. Josh won $40, and Steele received $30.

The pack sold $17,021 in popcorn, exceeding the goal of $14,333. The Bear den was the top-selling den with $4,222.96 in sales. Den members were treated to a pizza party, and the pack had an ice cream celebration, marking both accomplishments.

Scouts who met their individual goals of $318 included Luke Jacobs, Calvin DeWitt, Ethan Perrins, Harrison Hughes, Michael Gard, Thomas White, Sam Hambleton, Josh Waisner, Holt Hoftiezer, Sean Riling, Steele Jacobs, Andrew Hahn, Trevor Hughes, Matt Pribbenow and Jon Saathoff.

The fundraiser supports the pack and the Heart of America Council for activities such as Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, summer camps and monthly Scouting awards. Kathy Pribbenow served as the pack’s “popcorn kernel.”
