Local school attendance was returning to normal levels after a serious pre-Christmas surge of absences due to illness, mainly flu.

Builders in Lawrence had set a record-breaking pace in 1967, with more than $12 million in construction begun during the year, according to building inspector Ken Jorgensoon. The new total replaced the former record of $9,344,434 set in 1965.
