Kansas claims softball blowout

? Kansas University’s softball team scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-2 victory against Cal State Northridge in the final game of the Houston Invitational on Sunday.

KU collected eight hits in the first inning and 11 for the game, which was shortened to five innings by the run rule.

Kansas improved to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in the tournament. Northridge fell to 5-10 and 2-3.

Seven Jayhawks collected hits in the game. Seniors Betsy Wilson and Addy Lucero and juniors Dougie McCaulley and Val Chapple led KU with two hits apiece. Wilson and McCaulley each added a pair of RBIs, while Lucero, Chapple, junior Stevie Crisosto and freshman Liz Kocon also batted in one run each.

Kansas sent 15 batters to the plate in the opening frame. Eight of them collected at least one hit.

KU will travel to the Southern Illinois Invitational next weekend.
