Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 24, 1908: “W.J. Bryan delivered his famous sermon-lecture, ‘The Prince of Peace,’ before an audience of 2,800 men in Robinson Gymnasium last night and in all gave four speeches during the day, three here and one in Topeka. It is a powerful sermon. He spent the early evening with many dignitaries and the night at the home of Col. W.A. Harris. The night-time audience was undoubtedly the largest gathering of men ever assembled indoors in Lawrence for any occasion. “
