Lecompton is an “off-the-beaten-track” tourist destination, according to a short feature in the February issue of the tourist magazine Courier.

The article showcases Lecompton’s Constitution Hall and Territorial Capital Museum while describing a little of the area’s pre-Civil War history. It also mentions the Lecompton Historical Society and shows a picture of Charlene Winter and Paul Bahnmaier in 1850s attire.

The article was written by Mark Hoffmann, owner of Sports Leisure Vacations based in Sacramento, Calif. Hoffmann writes that Lecompton was a last-minute addition to a tour he led in December that made stops in Kansas City, Mo., Independence, Mo., and Lawrence. Lecompton was added after Hoffmann received an e-mail invitation from Bahnmaier.

The article states that “there are no restaurants or shops, just several historic buildings and locations. But Lecompton works as a very affordable and interesting destination.”

Courier is the trade publication for The National Tour Association and is mailed monthly to more than 6,000 subscribers.
