? Free State’s Tyler Kring rolled a 707 series to place second, and the Firebirds won the Sunflower League boys bowling tournament Saturday at Olathe East Lanes.

Lawrence High’s Tiffany Demaline bowled a 537 series to finish 12th and help the Lions to a fifth-place showing in the girls tournament.

Lawrence High’s boys placed eighth, and Free State’s girls placed seventh.

To hear FSHS coach Anita Carlson tell it, the Firebirds won league earlier in the week when they broke the 2,600-pin barrier at a meet in Topeka.

“The field (at league) is tough, but after we bowled Tuesday at Gage North in Topeka, where we shot 26 : that built their confidence, they were ready to go,” Carlson said.

Alex Hardman rolled a 652 series to place 10th for Free State. Ben Wyatt led LHS with a 630 series, good for 14th place. It was Free State’s first league bowling title.

Michelle Scheiffer led Free State’s girls in 19th place.

LHS and Free State will meet in a dual Tuesday at Royal Crest Lanes.
