Washington ? Jonathan Wallace, fouled in the backcourt by Corey Stokes with one-tenth of a second remaining, sank both free throws to give No. 8 Georgetown a 55-53 victory Monday night, the Hoyas’ first home win over Villanova in more than a decade.

Wallace came up with the loose ball – a rarity on a night when Georgetown was outhustled and outrebounded – in a mad scramble after Scottie Reynolds turned the ball over in traffic while Villanova was holding for the last shot.

Wallace started to dribble and was slightly bumped by Stokes, who became the fourth player to foul out in a game that was marred by 48 fouls.

Wallace scored 15 points for the Hoyas (20-3, 10-2 Big East), who have won seven of eight and bounced back from a loss at Louisville on Saturday.

Georgetown blew a 12-point lead and scored two field goals in the final eight minutes.

Reynolds led Villanova (14-9, 4-7) with 24 points, but he went only 1-for-6 from the field in the second half. Still, his night wasn’t as bad as that of teammate Corey Fisher, who went 1-for-16.

No. 25 St. Mary’s 54, Santa Clara 50

Santa Clara, Calif. – Diamon Simpson made two free throws with 24.4 seconds left to give Saint Mary’s the lead and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, and the 25th-ranked Gaels (21-3, 8-1 WCC) survived a scare.

Brody Angley missed a short jumper with six seconds to play, and Tron Smith converted both free throws on the other end. Smith finished with 15 points in the Gaels’ fourth straight victory, a closer contest than their 31-point rout of Santa Clara (12-11, 4-4) last month.
