A bill introduced in the Kansas House would allow two Lawrence city commissioners to meet privately to discuss city business without violating the Kansas Open Meetings Law. Three city commissioners here favored the change, two did not. The law would, in effect, move the quorum figure to four rather than three, allowing two to meet in private.

Local gasoline stations said the national market trend was responsible for prices soaring up to 10 cents more per gallon in a matter of two days. They said they were unsure of the exact reasons, but that “market manipulation” seemed to be the cause. Regular gasoline here had moved up to about $1.09 a gallon.

The Community Development board here had cut requests for funding by about $1.2 million to bring them within the $814,000 budget.
