Kansas City, Mo. Veritas Christian led by as many as 10 points in the first half and trailed by as many as 11 in the second, but wound up with a 49-45 loss to Blue Ridge Christian on Friday night in high school boys basketball.
"The guys fought hard. We never gave up," Veritas coach Doug Bennett said.
Michael Kay led Veritas with 17 points, followed by Jeremiah Johnson with 10 and Isaiah Dover with seven.
Veritas (7-11) will play Monday at St. Mary's Academy.
The Veritas girls, however, led from the start and rolled to a 48-39 victory over Blue Ridge Christian. Led by 11 points each from Kristie Tiegreen and Marteka Carlton, three Veritas players reached double figures and two others had eight for the Eagles, who improved to 13-6 with the victory. Tiegreen added 13 rebounds, and Meaghan Holmes added eight.
"We controlled the boards, and I really liked how well we distributed the ball," Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. "That was really key for us and I was proud of our effort."
