4-H and FCE News

The Meadowlark 4-H Club’s Jan. 8 meeting was in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Derby Miller gave the call to order. Members answered roll call by telling what their favorite winter sport is. Jamie Morgison read the minutes for the last meeting.

Snowflakes were made for Meals on Wheels and the Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community for citizenship committee.

For the leaders report, the club announced County Club Days will begin March 1.

Payton Gannaway visited our club and Laura Kennard has moved.

The meeting was adjourned by saying the club pledge and motto.

¢The monthly meeting of the Clinton Eagles 4-H Club was Jan. 28 at Wakarusa Valley School.

Kahlyn Heine, president, called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered by, “Who will win the Super Bowl – the Patriots or the Giants?”

Delaney Deiker, secretary, read the December meeting minutes and they were approved. Deiker also read three communications, one from Doug Gaston for a Hastings Gift Card, Dorothy and Merlin Baldwin thanking the club for caroling and Rex and Shirley Johnson also thanking the carolers.

Amanda Snodgrass, song leader, led the club in singing “Frere Jacques” in rounds.

Dustin Hoyt, treasurer, reported on club finances.

Morgan Manger, reporter, announced the report had been submitted.

There was not a County Council or Parliamentarian report.

Adam Spurling, historian, asked for December meeting pictures to be used in the scrapbook.

Lanaea Heine, community leader, talked about the County Club Days, Regional Club Days, Shawnee County Club Day volunteers, county scholarships, club books and auction checks.

Kristi Wempe received a one-year project leader pin for the sheep project.

Ron Heine, swine leader, announced the county swine meeting on Feb. 28. Charles Garzillo, poultry leader, informed club members that they would soon place an order for birds for the county fair.

Erica Spurling, community service leader, talked about donating items to the Ronald McDonald House.

The spring 2008 budget was presented to the club.

One new member joined and was initiated by Kirstyn Heine, vice-president. There were no programs.

The next meeting will be held at Wakarusa Valley School on Feb. 25.

¢Kanwaka FCE will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Aliene and David Bieber. The lesson will be “Mentors Make a Difference,” given by Beverly Bourque.
