Veritas girls grab 12th win

? Veritas Christian’s girls basketball team used stifling man-to-man defense to hold off Midland Adventist, 47-40, Monday night.

Kristie Tiegreen led the Eagles with 28 points and 11 rebounds, and Meaghan Holmes added 10 points and nine rebounds.

“They had some good things against our man defense,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said, “but we shut them down, especially Taelyr (Shelton) on their point guard.”

The Eagles (12-6) will travel to Marais Des Cygnes Valley in Melvern today.

McLouth 60, Cornerstone 34

McLouth – An explosive first half led the McLouth High girls basketball team to an easy victory over Cornerstone.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to one game above .500 at 7-6.

Area Boys

Baldwin 44, Belton 42

Baldwin – Justin Vander Tuig hit a buzzer-beating shot to lift Baldwin’s boys basketball team over Belton.

Vander Tuig took the pass from Dustin Schiller and nailed the game-winner. He finished with five points. Drew Berg led the Bulldogs with 16 points.

Baldwin improved to 11-3 and will play host to Louisburg on Friday.
