Lawrence hires auditor

A Kansas City, Mo., man with extensive experience in reviewing government operations has been tapped to become Lawrence’s first city auditor.

Mayor Sue Hack announced this morning that Michael Eglinski has been hired to fill a new position in City Hall that will conduct performance reviews of city services and programs.

Eglinski has been with the city of Kansas City, Mo., since 1992 and conducted performance audits on a range of government services including public works, parks, police, fire, budgeting, health, water and emergency response.

Eglinski has an undergraduate degree in economics from Kansas University, and a master’s degree from Stockholm University in Stockholm, Sweden.

The new city auditor position – which is distinct from the external financial auditors that the city uses to review its books – will report directly to the City Commission. Eglinski will start the week of Feb. 25.
