Kansas Democratic Party leaders have extended the deadline this evening by when caucus participants need to be in line at the Community Building, 1930 Harper St., of the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Anyone who wants to participate in the caucus there needs to be in line by 7:30 p.m. The deadline is 7 p.m. for all other sites, including the National Guard's Metcalf Memorial Armory, 200 Iowa St., and Abe & Jake's Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.
Party leaders said they decided to extend the deadline because they switched the site to the Fairgrounds from Liberty Hall on Friday due to space and parking concerns. The party will also sponsor a shuttle bus from Liberty Hall to the fairgrounds for anyone who still shows up there.
Participants who are not registered Democrats are also allowed to change their party affiliation at the door. Anyone who will be 18 by Election Day, Nov. 4, can register as a Democrat to participate. Doors for all sites open at 6 p.m.
Kansas Democrats can check which caucus site they need to attend at the Kansas Democratic Party's Super Tuesday Central web site.
Here is basic information:
¢ The National Guard's Metcalf Memorial Armory, 200 Iowa St., for those who live north of Sixth Street, as well as residents of Eudora and Baldwin City.
¢ Abe & Jake's Landing, 8 E. Sixth St., for those who live south of Sixth and west of Iowa, plus residents of Lecompton.
¢ The Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building, 1930 Harper St., for those who live south of Sixth Street and east of Iowa, including those living in Kansas University's residence halls.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the caucus process could be easier?
They get a night club and we get a barn?
Oh well, at least now I might make it after work in K.C… still in my good shoes. With any luck it will be an unheated building with a concrete floor.

srj does not “remeber correcly.”
The community building is heated and the floor is not dirt. This is a good choice for the caucus because there is plenty of easily-accessible asphalt parking and the fairgrounds are easy to reach from several major streets.

Wow, big choice. One guy that's been a member of the Council on Foreign relations forever, and another example of dynastic family politics. Might as well have a monarchy. No more New World Order!

Hundreds of people assigned to caucus at Abe and Jake's did not get to caucus because they could not get in, could not get in at Liberty Hall either, could not park, or just got too cold waiting over an hour in freezing rain.

From my point of view it was very unorganized at the Douglas County Fairgrounds site, the parking was terrible and muddy. Most people didn't even really know where to go and the lines were long as heck and people were cutting in line. I think more planning should of been done ahead of time. Due to other obligations that evening I never had a chance to vote, plus I freaking got stuck in the mud.
