Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 1, 1908: “Urna Rudolph, teacher at the Lake View School, closed her school when a case of diphtheria for a pupil was diagnosed. The building will be fumigated, but it may be several days before classes resume. The teacher’s father is the county health officer, so the matter seems to be in good hands. : Jesse Markley, a young man living east of Dinland, claimed the bounty this morning on 106 gopher scalps and one wolf scalp. The bounty on gophers is 10 cents and on the wolf a dollar, so Mr. Markley got $11.60. The traps were set where the gophers had been infesting an alfalfa field. The wolf was also trapped.”
