Tokyo ? Japan executed three prisoners on death row today, the Justice Ministry announced.

Executions were carried out at three prisons today, but no other details could be released immediately, ministry spokesman Takehiro Nakayama said.

The three inmates were hanged separately at their detention centers in Tokyo, western Osaka and southern Fukuoka, Kyodo News agency said, citing the Justice Ministry.
