The Jayhawk invasion of the Miami area had already begun with the Kansas-Penn State football game in the Orange Bowl drawing near. It was estimated more than 5,000 KU fans would be in the stands New Year’s Night. Gov. Robert Docking, a KU graduate, was heading up a Sunflower State delegation.
