Cold puts pressure on utility pipelines

Sunday’s bitter cold weather caused a couple of underground water lines to rupture, temporarily disrupting traffic and water service in two areas of the city.

Northbound traffic on Iowa Street was restricted to one lane near Harvard Road, while all traffic was diverted in an area between Cynthia Street and Randall Road.

City crews completed all work by late Sunday afternoon, according to Jeanette Klamm, the city’s utilities programs manager.
