Stars return for holiday movies

The last weekend before Christmas brings an onslaught of holiday movies featuring stars of films and sitcoms past, from “Dirty Dancing” to “Designing Women.”

• Patrick Swayze stars in “Christmas in Wonderland” (7 p.m. today, Family) as Wayne Saunders, the down-on-his-luck father of a recently uprooted family. Trying to make the best of a low-budget holiday, he takes the kids to the mall to buy some last-minute gifts and wrapping paper.

Fortune smiles when the kids happen upon a bag filled with cash. The downside of the windfall is that the dough belongs to two hapless crooks who will do anything to retrieve it so as not to disappoint their crime boss (Carmen Electra!). Don’t go looking for realism here.

Swayze also stars in the upcoming A&E series drama “The Beast,” premiering Jan. 15.

• Dixie Carter (“Designing Women”) and John Ratzenberger (“Cheers”) headline “Our First Christmas” (8 p.m. today, Hallmark), a tale of a blended family that takes a little longer than usual to warm up to each other over eggnog.

Married for a year after each losing their first spouse, Cindy (Julie Warner) and Tom (Steven Eckholdt) want the holidays to be perfect. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones with very particular ideas about Christmas traditions. It seems that every year, Cindy’s mom (Carter) took the kids skiing, and Tom’s dad (Ratzenberger) put on an annual pageant, “starring” the family. And neither set of kids wants to deviate from their old habits. Can this Christmas be saved?

Today’s’ other highlights

• Will Ferrell stars in the 2003 holiday comedy “Elf” (7 p.m., CBS).

• Friday and Crusoe celebrate a tribal ritual on “Crusoe” (7 p.m., NBC).

• Lucy and Linus’ little brother has a holiday request: “I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown” (7 p.m., ABC).

• Professional wrestlers entertain soldiers in Iraq on “WWE Tribute to the Troops” (8 p.m., NBC).

• Mike Myers stars in the 2003 adaptation of “Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat” (8 p.m., ABC). Like the Jim Carrey take on the Grinch (also recently aired on ABC), this movie was loathed by most critics and considered a vulgar desecration of a beloved children’s classic.

• Scheduled on “48 Hours Mystery” (9 p.m., CBS): the death of a popular politician.

• Stabler takes on an animal-smuggling racket on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (9 p.m., NBC).

Sunday’s highlights

• TV Land offers a merry-thon of Christmas-themed sitcom episodes, from a holiday “Murphy Brown” (7 a.m.) to an “Andy Griffith Show” (6:30 p.m.) take on “A Christmas Carol” from 1960.

• The Giants host the Panthers on “Sunday Night Football” (7 p.m., NBC).

• “Nature” (7 p.m., PBS, check local listings) repeats the holiday favorite “Christmas in Yellowstone.”

• The remains of a murdered stewardess pose new questions on “Cold Case” (8 p.m., CBS), featuring a Frank Sinatra soundtrack.

• “Nick News with Linda Ellerbee” (8 p.m., Nickelodeon) presents “America’s Forgotten Children: Rural Poor.”

• Jonas has a lesson for a desk-bound commander on “The Unit” (9 p.m., CBS).
