Mangino, Perkins ring NASDAQ bell
From left, Minnesota Head Coach Tim Brewster, Minnesota Athletics Director Joel Maturi, Insight Bowl President and CEO Rich Fennessy, Insight Bowl Chairman Dave Tilson, Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino and Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins ring the opening bell of the NASDAQ stock market to open trading on Monday, Dec. 16 in New York. The committee was celebrating the upcoming Dec. 31 Insight bowl between Kansas and Minnesota.
Earning a bid to the Insight Bowl meant a trip to the Big Apple for Mark Mangino and Lew Perkins.
Kansas University’s football coach and athletic director were in New York City Monday morning, ringing the bell to open trading at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange.
They joined Minnesota coach Tim Brewster, UM athletic director Joel Maturi, Insight Bowl President and CEO Rich Fennessy and Insight Bowl Chairman Dave Tilson.
The presence of the athletic bigwigs didn’t seem to help the market. At the close of Monday’s trading, the NASDAQ index fell more than 32 points, or 2.1 percent.
