Commuter forecast: Between Kansas City and Lawrence

Kim Qualls, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Transportation, said that road conditions between Lawrence and Topeka would vary somewhat, depending on the road.

Four-lane highways, generally, are clear in the right-hand lane, other than having the white and yellow lanes covered, she said. The left-hand lanes are snowpacked.

Two-lane roads are snowpacked, and movement is especially slow.

“Everybody just needs to be careful, period,” Qualls said. “There aren’t any roads you can get out on and go 70 (mph). There just aren’t, especially now that the temperatures will start falling a little bit again.”

A rundown:

• Kansas Turnpike: Snowpacked, with limited areas of exposed pavement, said Lisa Callahan, a turnpike spokeswoman. Travel is slow.

• Kansas Highway 10: Right-hand lanes generally clear, Qualls said. Left-hand lanes less so. “There’s still snow in the driving lane, but it’s drivable,” she said.

• U.S. Highway 24-40: Generally snowpacked.

• Kansas Highway 32: Generally snowpacked.
