Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 14, 1908: “All the dairymen around Lawrence are testing their herds for tuberculosis and getting rid of infected cows. This is the result of a state inspection program and the desire of the dairy people to give their patrons pure milk while also having experts inspect their herds. Local cows have been found remarkably free from the disease. … There is a notable movement to have every county school have a library that will be highly prized and widely used by the children at the schools. It is an outstanding goal. … The members of the Christian Church, now in their new building, have raised more than $33,000 to pay for the new building and now are only $4,000 short of meeting the full cost. There was an impressive dedication program and practically all the dollars for the new building came from members rather than outsiders.”
