Baldwin completes sweep of Burlington

Baldwin — Baldwin High held off a late surge by Burlington to win its second straight boys basketball game of the season on Friday night.

Senior Brandon Tommer led Baldwin (2-0) with 25 points. He has averaged 23 points per game in the first two contests. Baldwin will play host to Louisburg today.

Tonganoxie boys 52, Wellsville 37

Paola — The Chieftains picked up their first win of the season in the seventh-place game at the Paola Invitational.

Junior THS forward Keaton Schaffer went on a personal 8-1 run against the Eagles to end the second quarter and give the Chieftains a four-point halftime lead and momentum.

Schaffer scored eight more in the game-changing third quarter — THS led, 41-23, entering the fourth — and finished the contest with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Senior THS pivot Austin Smith scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore Jeremy Carlisle passed out seven assists.

Tonganoxie will play host to Perry-Lecompton on Tuesday.

Jackson Heights 59, McLouth boys 46

Oskaloosa — The Bulldogs fell to 0-4 in their final game at the Delaware Valley League Tournament.

MHS junior point guard Cole Batman led MHS with 19 points. Senior Derrick Crouse scored 17.

McLouth is now idle for 24 days with their next contest coming Jan. 6 at Maranatha Academy.

Oskaloosa 25, Jefferson County North 23

Oskaloosa — Oskaloosa scored just six points in the second half, yet still won in the Delaware Valley League Tournament.

Ottawa 63, Wallace County 50

Goodland — Adam Hasty scored 24 points, and Jake Moore 17 points and 11 rebounds in Ottawa’s victory at the Tip-Off Tournament.

Wamego 59, Santa Fe Trail 44

Carbondale — Jason Lee had 13 and Stuart Kraus 10, but it wasn’t enough for Santa Fe Trail.

Santa Fe Trail (0-2) will travel Tuesday to Kansas City Ward.

Girls

Baldwin 45, Burlington 39

Baldwin — Tracie Weege scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Baldwin to a tough victory over Burlington.

Baldwin grabbed the lead with 5:17 remaining on one of Weege’s three three-pointers. The Bulldogs never looked back and moved to 2-0. Baldwin will play host to Louisburg today.

Wamego 43, Santa Fe Trail 29

Carbondale — Amanda Bixel scored 10 points and Shara Luther nine in a losing cause for Santa Fe Trail (0-2).

SFT will travel Tuesday to Kansas City Ward.

Ottawa 67, Weskan 63

Goodland — Eight Ottawa players scored in a narrow victory against Weskan at the Topside Tip-Off Tournament.

Jordan Baldwin and Kearsten Peoples each had 14 points for Ottawa, and Shelby Miller added 10.

Ottawa won despite not hitting a field goal in the fourth quarter. OHS did, however, connect on 11 of 16 free throws in the final period.
