Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 12, 1908: “Carl Pleasant of Lyndon was elected captain for the Kansas football team for 1909 at a banquet given the team by manager W.C. Landson last evening at the Eldridge. The voting was close but there were no hard feelings among the members of the all-victorious 1908 team being honored. There were three strong candidates for the honor. … Whitsed Laming, manager of the Kansas City and Southwestern Railway, continues to work for an interurban electric line that runs through Lawrence. He says much work already had been done and he also is pushing for a city electric system here. … Corn on the local market brought a topnotch price today, 61 cents a bushel. Farmers with corn to sell are reaping high profits and the supply could be shorted for the winter.”
