Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 9, 1908: “Directors of the County Fair Assn. are meeting to determine if there is to be a local county fair this fall. Many want an annual fair revived but last fall it was called off due to heavy losses the farmers encountered due to the flooding. … County poor commissioner Parnell today started a rock pile for the poor people of the county and henceforth there need be no complaints of a shortage of work. This can be a great cure-all for the lack of work among the shiftless of the town and a great blessing to the honest poor.”
