Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 8, 1908: “J.D. Bowersock this morning offered to give $1,000 toward the expense of raising Bridge Street from the river to the Union Pacific Railway, a protective plan the World has been agitating for ever since the big flood last spring. … The Kansas City and Kansas Southwestern Electric Railway Co. has asked for a franchise to run their interurban line through the streets of Lawrence. This is the Laming company that has been trying to get into the city for several years. The city council is considering the offer.”
