‘Chemical Ali’ gets second death sentence

December 3, 2008

— Saddam Hussein’s notorious cousin “Chemical Ali” Hassan al-Majid received a second death sentence Tuesday — this time for crushing a Shiite uprising in the wake of Iraq’s defeat in the 1991 Gulf War.

Al-Majid, once among the most feared members of Saddam’s regime, muttered “thanks be to God” as chief judge Mohammed Oreibi al-Khalifa declared him guilty and imposed the sentence at the end of the trial, which began in August 2007.

Al-Majid already faces the gallows after being convicted last year for his role in the killing of tens of thousands of Kurds in a crackdown in the late 1980s — in which chemical weapons were used against civilians. But legal wrangling has delayed that execution.

"There's really only one thing to be done. Find some tinpot despot somewhere in a country whose resources we covet, make unsupported assertions about his weapons of mass destruction, invade and quagmire (I've just created a new verb.)"--Bozo, why is he called Chemical Ali?

"Bozo doesn't consider blister gassing an entire village as using weapons of mass destruction. Then again, Bozo blames President Bush "That was definitely not Bush 43's fault. That one came under Reagan/Bush's watch when they had Saddam running a proxy war against Iran for them. And no, it's not a weapon of mass destruction-- or if it is, nearly every weapon the US has used in Iraq and Afghanistan are also WMD. But the important point is that unless there is an actual delivery system, then no weapon is a WMD, and Iraq never had any means of delivering a WMD against the US.OK, ignore everything I said, and whip yourself back into a senseless frenzy.

"unless there is an actual delivery system"What insanely complex weapon was used to destroy the World Trade Center in New York? I remember these great big buildings there when I was in New York as a kid.

Jet airliners are not weapons of mass destruction, gdsacco-- certainly less so than the conventional-warhead cruise missiles the US fires off at other countries with great regularity.BTW, Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks of 9/11. But since ignorance seems to be your strong suit, I doubt that that matters to you.

Wow, I had a point, but you missed it so utterly I think I'll just leave it right there.

Perhaps you just made your point very badly. Or perhaps your point was just bad. I'll just leave it at that.

My point is, you believe in order to deliver a nuke, you need a "delivery system." Well, the "delivery system" for a nuclear weapon could be a Gulfstream V, a shipping container, or a Oil Tanker, all of which have already been "developed." The "Delivery System" for a Biological weapon could be a guy named Ahmed who wishes to become a martyr so he can finally get some tail, hanging around in Grand Central for a few days.
