Baker University had a record turnout for the first day of classes Wednesday at its campuses with a total of 3,728 students. That included 952 students at the Baldwin City campus.
Those numbers eclipsed last year's record total of 3,621 students and the 945 at the Baldwin City campus. The record for the main campus is 1,000 students set 25 years ago.
A total of 1,818 students were enrolled at the School of Professional and Graduate Studies in Overland Park, Lee's Summit, Mo., Topeka and Wichita.
The School of Nursing at Stormont-Vail Regional HealthCare in Topeka had an all-time high of 161 students. The School of Education graduate programs recorded an enrollment of 797 students.
Official enrollments won't be totaled until Sept. 24. Baker officials expect the first-day numbers to rise when enrollment from new fall classes are reported.
It's Kansas Board of Regents policy that Kansas University - along with the five other regents universities - can't discuss their enrollment numbers until official numbers are released mid-September.

Good! Sounds like the marketing and recruiting folk down there in Baldwin are doing a great job. Who should get the kudos?

I'm guessing their new Dean of Students! Cassie is fantastic and a great new addition to Baker.

Actually, I think it's because KU has priced itself to the point where it costs as much as a private college and people are starting to figure that out.

I graduated from Baker recently (class of '07) and I just have to say, I've never seen an institution that listens to its students so little. How they pulled this off is beyond me.
