Chiefs release Feely after two days in camp
Kansas City, Mo. ? The Kansas City Chiefs released veteran place-kicker Jay Feely on Tuesday.
Nick Novak and Connor Barth will be the Chiefs’ kickers in Thursday’s final preseason game against St. Louis at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs will have to make a final decision between the two by Saturday, when they must trim their roster to 53 players.
Feely lagged behind Barth and Novak in two days of direct practice competition. Feely made 23 of his 30 field-goal attempts, while Barth made 28 of 30 and Novak 27 of 30.
On signing Feely, the Chiefs told Novak and Barth that the two best kickers from the two days of competition would survive until Thursday’s game.
The Chiefs also placed wide receiver Kevin Robinson on the physically-unable-to-perform reserve list Tuesday and released three other players.
Released were defensive tackle Maurice Murray, defensive end Jonal Saint-Dic and tackle Ken Shackleford.
Robinson was one of two sixth-round picks in the 2008 draft out of Utah State. Murray and Saint-Dic were signed as rookie free agents and Shackleford came into the NFL as a sixth-round selection by St. Louis in 2007.
