Angle offers look into world of media

For some, the end of summer and the return to school can be a drag. But take heart – back-to-school time is also back-to-Angle time.

Angle is the Journal-World’s teen advisory board. Junior-high or high-school students interested in any aspect of media are welcome to attend.

Last year’s members came up with eight great reasons to join Angle:

¢ Meeting people. Angle is open to students in seventh through 12th grades from all schools in the Journal-World’s readership area, including home-schooled students.

¢ Taking tours. Go behind the scenes at Free State Studios, see everything come together at the News Center or watch the presses print the Journal-World.

¢ Getting in the paper. Our group of Angle advisers will work with members to publish their reviews, stories or photos, or call them up when looking for sources.

¢ Getting a feeling of working in the media. Look forward to exclusive Angle news conferences.

¢ Interesting and informative speakers. Angle brings in top-notch journalists to give members insight into what working in the media is like.

¢ Some teachers give extra credit. Talk to your English, writing or journalism teachers to see if you can work something out.

¢ The food. Meetings sometimes involve snacks. Occasionally pizza.

¢ It’s fun! Angle members will corroborate – they came up with this list, after all. Go ask them about it.

To join Angle, just show up to a meeting. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, September through May, in the News Center, 645 N.H. The first meeting is Sept. 4.
