Kansas Atty. Gen. Bob Stephan led media representatives and law officials through the rain and mud in what one official called the biggest marijuana raid in Kansas history. The raid occurred in a field about a half-mile north of DeSoto in Leavenworth County. Stephan told reporters that the marijuana destroyed in the field could have been worth as much as $2 million, then added, “That’s probably a very conservative figure.”

Mayor David Longhurst said he would suggest to the City Commission that the full commission serve as the negotiating committee for the downtown renovation project. Longhurst said all negotiations should be open to the public. There had been suggestions that the negotiations be closed.
