Diamondbacks 4, Padres 1
Phoenix – Brandon Webb pitched seven shutout innings for his career-high and major-league-leading 19th victory.
It was the sixth straight winning start for Webb (19-4), giving him eight wins in his last 11 starts. He allowed three hits with eight strikeouts, both tying season bests, as the Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep.
Arizona won for the eighth time in the last 10 games and maintained a two-game lead over Los Angeles in the NL West. The Diamondbacks improved to 34-16 against division opponents.
Tony Clark hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning, and Connor Jackson had a two-run double in the fifth, both off Chad Reineke (1-1).
Brandon Lyon pitched the ninth, allowing Edgar Gonzalez’s two-out RBI single.
Cubs 3, Reds 2
Chicago – Carlos Zambrano earned his 13th victory on the fourth try and also homered to lift Chicago past Cincinnati. Zambrano (13-5) allowed a run and six hits in seven innings, including a solo homer by Jay Bruce in the sixth. The Cubs’ ace had two no-decisions and a loss in his previous three starts.
Nationals 4, Phillies 3
Philadelphia – Austin Kearns hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning, and Washington snapped a 12-game losing streak with a victory over Philadelphia.
The Phillies, who entered 11â2 games behind the NL East-leading New York Mets, blew an eighth-inning lead for the third time in nine days.
Ryan Madson (3-2) couldn’t protect a one-run lead after Carlos Ruiz put Philadelphia ahead with a solo homer in the seventh.
Dodgers 3, Rockies 1
Los Angeles – Derek Lowe cooled off Colorado by allowing one run in 61â3 innings, James Loney homered and had two RBIs, and Los Angeles beat the Rockies to salvage the finale of a three-game series.
The victory gave the Dodgers a 7-3 record on their 10-game homestand.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Rockies, who scored 36 runs in three wins in Washington and two more at Dodger Stadium. It also ended Colorado’s four-game winning streak against the Dodgers.
Giants 4, Marlins 3
San Francisco – Emmanuel Burriss scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning. Burriss drew a one-out walk off closer Kevin Gregg, stole second and took third on a fly out. Pinch-hitter Bengie Molina was intentionally walked, but Gregg’s first pitch to Fred Lewis skipped past catcher John Baker, allowing Burriss to score standing up.
Brian Wilson (2-2) pitched a scoreless ninth for San Francisco, which won for the fourth time in five games. Wilson also got the win Wednesday.
Mets 5, Braves 4
New York – Carlos Delgado singled in the winning run in the ninth inning and tied a career high with five hits, sending New York past Atlanta to complete a three-game sweep.
