Fred Williams, 36, took over as director of the Kansas University Alumni Association. He had been director of alumni relations and development at Slippery Rock State College in Pennsylvania. He succeeded Dick Wintermote, who had resigned but was due to remain in an advisory capacity for as long as he was needed, he said.

City officials dusted off a previously rejected plan for downtown redevelopment in what some commissioners said was an attempt at compromise. Others said the old plan was an effort “to reinvent the wheel.”
