American League Roundup: Rios, Jays blast Beckett

Boston – Alex Rios went 5-for-6 and matched a club record with four doubles, and Toronto knocked Boston ace Josh Beckett out after 21â3 innings.
Adam Lind had a solo homer and four RBIs, and John McDonald added three hits and three RBIs for the Blue Jays, who won their fifth in six games and improved to 6-2 against the Red Sox this season.
Boston lost consecutive games for the first time in August and fell to 21-23 within divisional play, its only losing record against a division.
Indians 4, Angels 3
Cleveland – Jeremy Sowers and two relievers cooled off Los Angeles’ lineup, and the Indians handed the Angels a rare series loss, winning the deciding game of a three-game series.
It was the Angels’ first series loss to an AL opponent since a three-game sweep in Tampa Bay from May 9-11. They hadn’t lost any series since dropping two of three interleague games to the Los Angeles Dodgers from June 27-29.
Twins 11, Mariners 8
Minneapolis – Jason Kubel had four hits and scored four runs, and Joe Nathan got four outs for his 33rd save for Minnesota.
Nathan got Ichiro Suzuki to ground out to complete the three-game sweep, leaving the bases loaded.
Justin Morneau homered and drove in two runs for the Twins, who are locked in a first-place tie with the White Sox in the AL Central.
Orioles 16, Tigers 8
Detroit – Melvin Mora and Luke Scott had two home runs apiece for Baltimore.
Mora had five hits and a career-high six RBIs, while Scott had three hits and four RBIs to pace a 22-hit Baltimore attack.
White Sox 13, Athletics 1
Oakland, Calif. – Carlos Quentin hit his 34th homer and drove in four, and Alexei Ramirez had a grand slam as the White Sox won a series in Oakland for the first time in eight years.
Rays 7, Rangers 4
Arlington, Texas – B.J. Upton homered and drove in three runs for the Rays in his return from a benching.
