From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 16, 1908: “Two companies are competing hard for franchises for street car operation here. One group is local, the other based in Kansas City. A city decision is due soon. The Kansas City group also is interested in interurban transportation facilities including Lawrence. : A number of local farmers say they are losing business because of bad roads caused by the recent flooding.”
