While Kansas University released its 2009 football schedule Friday, the site for the Jayhawks' annual Border War matchup with Missouri - and college football's oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi - hasn't yet been determined.

The two schools are currently in a two-year agreement during which the game is being held at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium, approximately halfway between the two schools.

KU senior associate athletic director Larry Keating, who is in charge of scheduling, said this week that discussions are ongoing regarding the venue of the Jayhawks' Nov. 28, 2009, game against the Tigers, although the schools' officials likely wouldn't reach a verdict until later this fall.

"We're talking about it, but that's all there is so far," Keating said. "I think at this point, we'd probably make a decision by the time we play this year's (Missouri-Kansas) game. It could happen earlier, it could happen around that time."

In their first four games of the '09 season, the Jayhawks will take on nonconference opponents Northern Colorado (Sept. 5), Texas-El Paso (Sept. 12), Duke (Sept. 19) and Southern Mississippi (Sept. 26), in addition to an eight-game conference schedule that will be the same as the 2008 version.

In all, Kansas will play seven games at Memorial Stadium, including games against Northern Colorado, Duke, Southern Mississippi, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Missouri (assuming it isn't moved to Kansas City), while traveling to UTEP, Colorado, Texas Tech, Kansas State and Texas.

Keating, meanwhile, added that the 2010, 2011 and 2012 schedules could potentially be completed within the next few months, at which point they would be released to the public.

"As soon as we get a season done, we put it out," he said. "We don't like to put out the partials (schedules). You put that information out and people plan stuff out ahead of time, and if you change it, people get upset. ... (But) as soon as we get it done, we'll put it out."

britt408 - KU plays OU at Norman this year and next year, who knows? I am sure that Perkins is dreaming up some stupid plan to move that game to Omaha, or Baltimore or Egypt.

"KU releases 2009 football schedule"So... was it a fumble?

Something tells me TVoR will not be posting on this story again...

"That's asking an awful lot from a Mizzou grad. Just pay him for the pizza and he'll leave your porch though."It may take him awhile to count the money!!!

TVoR,This is the schedule for 2009. All the dates above are actually Saturdays and the locations of the games appear to be accurate. The Big 12 schedule would be exactly opposite for the 2008 schedule, as we play the same teams in back to back years, but the locations are flip-flopped.At least I think so...

The_Voice_of_Reason 7 years ago

Ahh... 2009 Sorry for doubting the LJW's excellent writing skills...

TVoR, it wasn't just "a simple mistake in reading a headline". It was a lack of common sense - the season starts in two weeks, so why would they be announcing the schedule NOW?Simple mistake, though. I've made plenty myself. Yours provided a few of us (and hopefully you) with a chuckle.

Duke? Come on, play a real BCS team. And don't be so sure that Missouri game will be on "the hill".

The_Voice_of_Reason 7 years ago

Seriously? One simple mistake in reading a headline and this is what I get? You guys need a hobby...

TVoR,Not to pile on, but you DID ridicule the LJW for getting it "ALL wrong," as well as disparaged the writer of the article for a lack of editing acumen. It is, therefore, at least slightly ironic that your criticism turned out to be, in fact, quite wrong in itself. It's not uncommon for a critic, when proven wrong, to be ridiculed in an equal or similar way as he/she ridiculed the original (in this case non-)offender.Just saying...

Yea we get Missouri on the hill next year....and Oklahoma...in 2009.....

I hope we kick UTEP in the backside. If I recall the last B-ball game we played they beat us in the tourney. A long time ago.
