Police say alcohol was factor in rollover accident

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on charges of operating under the influence, after police said she caused a two-vehicle rollover accident about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, a Lawrence Police report said.

The crash, which left one Jeep upside down, occurred on Sixth Street between Schwarz Road and Crestline Drive, near the entrance to Tuckaway Apartments.

Police said the driver of a silver Volkswagen Jetta, Linaya Newstrom, made an improper left turn in front of a red Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Tara Stephens, 17, according to the report.

Newstrom was arrested for operating under the influence, the report said.

According to police, the two women involved in the accident, both of Lawrence, were treated at the scene and did not suffer any major injuries.

Police diverted westbound traffic on Sixth Street in the area until the scene was cleared.
