From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 13, 1908: “The special term of summer school at the university closed at noon today after one of the most successful three-week periods on record. There was an enrollment of 62 in the 10 courses offered. : The big celebration for governor candidate W.R. Stubbs had to be called off due to heavy rain. It has been reset for next week to honor the local Republican leader.”
