American League Roundup: Sox outlast Rangers, 19-17

August 13, 2008

Red Sox 19, Rangers 17

Boston - In one of the wildest games of the season, Kevin Youkilis' go-ahead homer sent Boston to victory after Texas fought back from a 10-run first inning that included a pair of three-run homers by David Ortiz.

Youkilis drove a three-run shot over Fenway Park's Green Monster in the eighth inning for his second homer of a dizzying night, bringing fans to their feet as he circled the bases with uncharacteristic speed.

Indians 7, Orioles 5

Cleveland - Asdrubal Cabrera hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning, and Cleveland beat Baltimore for its fifth straight win.

Angels 7, Mariners 3

Anaheim, Calif. - Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson and Juan Rivera homered.

Yankees 9, Twins 6 (12)

Minneapolis - Alex Rodriguez hit a tiebreaking homer in the 12th inning, and New York overcame Mariano Rivera's first blown save of the season. Xavier Nady added a two-run shot later in the 12th, also off Matt Guerrier (6-6), to help New York end a four-game skid - their longest of the season. Johnny Damon hit a leadoff homer and finished with three hits. He also scored twice.

Blue Jays 6, Tigers 4

Detroit - Vernon Wells' two-out, two-run double capped a four-run seventh inning to lift Toronto to a 6-4 come-from-behind win over Detroit. Adam Lind had three hits, including a home run. He drove in two runs.

Athletics 2, Rays 1

Oakland, Calif. - Bobby Crosby hit a two-run home run, and Gio Gonzalez gained his first major-league victory. Gonzalez pitched out of a couple of jams in five-plus innings in his second career start.
