Yellow House owners face records charges

Additional details have emerged about new federal charges filed against Lawrence business owners Guy and Carrie Neighbors.

According to federal court documents, the couple were charged with concealing a record with the intent of impairing an investigation.

The charges, filed Aug. 8, allege that the Neighborses refused to turn over sales documents related to a computer that they had listed for sale on eBay. Investigators had determined that the computer had been stolen from Kansas University’s William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. The sales documents provided information on whom the Neighborses had purchased the allegedly stolen computer from.

The couple operate the Yellow House, a Lawrence store that sells used merchandise.

They were taken into custody and booked into Douglas County Jail. A jail spokeswoman said the Neighborses were released to federal agents Monday morning. Other details weren’t immediately available.

The new charges are in addition to 19 counts that they sold stolen property, and they also face federal drug charges in a separate case.

For nearly three years, the couple have said allegations that they’ve knowingly sold stolen goods were false. And they’ve repeatedly accused law enforcement and prosecutors of corruption.
